After

My goal was to finally get back to a fit lifestyle and to be as healthy as someone of such a young age should actually be. Things like tying your shoes should not be difficult! I also wanted to feel comfortable in my own skin again. I didn't want to have to think about what I would wear everyday and didn't want to hide anymore.

Overview

Why did you want to lose weight?

As a nurse, I see firsthand the type of effects being overweight can have. Plus, I also had to have an operation myself and was really scared to be under anesthesia for so long at such a heavy weight. Another big trigger was back problems I was having. All of these factors came together and that's when my weight-loss journey began.

"I know what I can eat without feeling guilty and I'm good at breaking up my calories for the day."

At the time, my life consisted of work, sitting on the couch and watching series, and ordering pizza. I did very little exercise. Even time with friends consisted of mainly food or movies. I had very little motivation to cook and, when I did, it was usually with ready-made sauces.
I had already tried to lose weight a few times, but never really had that "aha moment". I think that's why I never reached my goals. As soon as I finally did have that "aha moment", it was suddenly fun to spend time thinking about nutrition and exercise.

Naiomi lost 77 lb, her success story

How did you reach your goals?

I started with a different weight-loss program and signed up for a gym that offered circuit training. With that, I had a beginner's exercise program that was doable for someone who was overweight. After I lost a few pounds, I started using the normal workout machines and going to different courses.

At some point, I was no longer happy with my weight-loss program. So, I started to simply listen to my body when eating and maintaining my weight. I've been using YAZIO since December to get rid of the last bit of weight and to have an overview of my calories and macros.

Naiomi’s Tips

Never give up, even if you have a few off days
Be patient with yourself and your body
Use old pictures to motivate yourself

For work, I planned all of my meals and always brought my food with me. I also wear a fitness tracker every day. Exercise is as important to me now as my healthy and balanced diet is.
Now, it's no longer a problem for me to go out to eat. I know what I can eat without feeling guilty and I'm good at breaking up my calories for the day. If there is a day where that's not the case, I do an extra round of exercise.

How did YAZIO help you?

What I find great about YAZIO is that it has a lot of delicious, new recipes and meal ideas. It's also important for me that I have a good overview of my diet and, with YAZIO, it's great. I immediately see how many calories I have left and which nutrients I still need. I also like that you can change the settings between weight loss and muscle building. All in all, the app is very flexible.

Did you have setbacks?

I rarely had setbacks. I knew exactly what I wanted. When I had a bad day, I would look at old pictures of myself and would immediately regain my focus.

What advice do you have for other users?

Never give up! Even if you have a bad day, you should never think "nothing matters now". Maybe the pizza was unhealthy, but that doesn't mean you have to have a bar of chocolate, too. Tomorrow will be a healthier day.

If you hit a plateau, you have to remember that you also didn't put the weight on in just 2 weeks. You have to be patient with your body. Look in the mirror, look at old photos! Even if you've hit a rough patch, you can't forget all that you've already accomplished. The journey continues, even if it takes a little longer.

What are your future goals?

I would like to tone my body. That's why I'm working really hard on myself. I do strength training 3 to 4 times per week and want to build muscle. I have the feeling that that will help tighten my skin a bit more. I would also like to try other activites, now that anything is possible.

Why do you want to tell your story?

I want to motivate others. If you're doing this on your own, the journey can seem daunting. But anything is possible! Use every before and after picture as motivation. That will help you see that you can do it, too!
