Overview

Why did you want to lose weight?

I was never fat as a child. I started gaining weight when I was 15. At some point, I didn't have the guts to step on the scale. In 2014 and 2015, I lived and worked in Cape Town, South Africa. I enjoyed a lot of treats there and paid less attention to my diet. When I got back to Germany, I had a personal setback and tried to compensate it with food. So, I kept gaining weight, until I decided I had to put a stop to it.

"I realized that YAZIO isn't like a classic diet. Instead, it's a lifestyle change and a fantastic experience that makes learning about nutrition fun."

In March 2018, I finally had that aha moment after seeing pictures of myself from a family gathering. I never wanted to look like that! Starting in the summer of 2018, I started going to the swimming pool before work several times a week. On Sundays, I regularly walked 6 miles with my mom. In November 2018, after I started feeling fitter and had already lost some weight, I set a new goal and signed up for the summer triathlon in Hamburg.

What did you want to accomplish on your journey?

I wanted to lose at least 55 lb, but still look feminine, and to be more active, fit and toned. The number on the scale, for example, was no longer important. I just wanted to look and the mirror and like what I saw.

How did you reach your goals?

By counting calories with YAZIO, I learned to control my diet more healthily and pay attention to what I was eating. In addition, I exercise a lot, such as strength and cardio training. I'm also a passionate swimmer. One day per week, I take a time out and treat myself to a cheat day.

Jacqueline’s Tips

Treat yourself sometimes.
Set small, realistic goals.
Choose the healthy way and do something good for your body.

How did YAZIO help you?

A few months before I started with YAZIO, I had already started eating healthier, but I had totally underestimated the content of healthy foods (e.g. nuts, fruit). The app helped me see how many calories I had already eaten for breakfast. YAZIO offers tons of great recipes and functions, like a water tracker, that really support and motivate me.

Did you have setbacks?

I also had to deal with a plateau, when my weight just wouldn't budge. However, I looked at it positively since I wasn't gaining weight. That's how I learned to trust myself and give my body time. Exercise helped keep me balanced during these times and to clear my head.

What advice do you have for other users?

I can definitely recommend to consume your entire daily calorie goal (without burned calories) that the app suggests, even if it feels like a lot at first. It really does help. Burned calories can, of course, also be replenished if you want. Weekly cheat days are a must-have for me and are even more fun when enjoyed with friends. Avoid juice/shake fasts in which you only consume shakes and nothing else for a whole week. I could lose weight in a short amount of time, but put it back on just as quickly. So, it doesn't help. Instead, choose the healthy way and do something good for your body.

What are your future goals?

First, I'd like to complete the triathlon and, maybe later, help other people reach their goals. I can imagine training to be a nutrition coach or a fitness trainer, but only the future knows what it holds.

Why do you want to tell your story?

At first, I was skeptical as to whether or not YAZIO would work. After all, every app or diet program says it will. I was scared I would only be allowed to eat salad, but I realized that YAZIO isn't like a classic diet. Instead, it's a lifestyle change and a fantastic experience that makes learning about nutrition fun.

You don't have to cut out anything and, with the recipe suggestions, you learn what diverse, healthy nutrition looks like. When I was having a rough time, I would open the YAZIO Facebook group and talk with other users to find new motivation. We are all one community in which we support each other, meet like-minded people and share our accomplishments.
