Overview

Why did you want to lose weight?

The specific moment for me when I decided to lose weight was at the swimming pool. Apart from the fact that I was ashamed of the way I looked, I also had the problem that I would get out of breath really quickly. We were on the tube slide and after we got to the end, we wanted to go back up and go again. As I was climbing the stairs, my heart was pumping like crazy and it wouldn't stop. That was the moment for me when I realized I couldn't keep going like that. I wanted to live a fuller life.

"You have to believe in yourself and can't let setbacks bring you down."

At that time, I was 21 years old and I just couldn't believe that my weight had already put so many limitations on my life. Due to my obesity, I also already had high blood pressure. From then on, I wanted to change something. I wanted to lead a healthy life with no restrictions and be able to move the way someone my age should be able to. I also thought about my future. When I decide to have children one day, I don't want to just sit on the bench while they play, I want to be able to swing and run with them.

What did you want to accomplish on your journey?

First, it was important to get healthy again. I already had high blood pressure and other health problems. My main goal was to be able to wear a bikini again.

How did you reach your goals?

To start, I did a lot of research online. I wanted to know what was and wasn't healthy for my body, which foods would give me energy, and which would cause my insulin levels to spike. Then, I got started. I think a lot of people have the problem that they don't know where to start. Just start and, with time, you'll find your way. :) You can't do everything 100% right from the beginning.

Daniela’s Tips

Believe in yourself
Above all, listen to yourself and don't let others influence you
Go your own way and listen to your body

For me, the best way was to change my habits step by step. My family and friends supported me along the way. I think anyone who has ever tried to lose weight knows how difficult it can be if those around you aren't willing to help.

To keep my diet in check, I made myself a weekly meal and training plan. I knew what and when I would eat, so there were no excuses. In general, good preparation is essential for losing weight. I prepped meals for work (breakfast and lunch) the night before and it worked out well. I always tried to stay in a calorie deficit. I also went to the gym regularly and focused mainly on strength training.

How did YAZIO help you?

YAZIO helped give me a better overview of what I was eating. It's so easy to underestimate how many calories particular foods actually have. By counting calories with YAZIO, I quickly realized that I was eating a lot more than I thought. It might sound strange, but anyone who would track their food for a day would also be amazed at how much they're eating and how many calories everything has.

Since I started using YAZIO, I eat smaller portions and still feel full. A lot of it is psychological. Before, I would get scared that one serving wouldn't be enough for me or, when we would go out to eat, I would be disappointed if I couldn't finish what was on my plate. That's total nonsense.

For me, it's not about seeing what I'm "allowed" to eat, it's about being aware of what I'm eating, understanding that half a plate will also keep me full. What's great about YAZIO is that every food is marked with positive or negative properities. For me, healthy eating is really important and this function helps me immensely.

Did you have setbacks?

I also had to fight setbacks. Unfortunately, I'm a stress eater and, when everything gets to be too much, my diet suffers.

Over time, I've learned that in these moments, I need to remember what I really want. You have to believe in yourself and can't let setbacks bring you down. It's important to remember that the journey won't be a walk in the park, and that makes such setbacks easier to handle.

What advice do you have for other users?

Find your own way. Try to listen to your body (e.g. knowing what full feels like, what does your body good, and which foods make you feel the best) and don't let others talk you into something else. There will always be those that think they know better. If I had listened to these people, I'm sure I'd still be at the beginning.

What are your future goals?

I would still like to lose another 20 lb. Then, I will be at a healthy BMI. After that, I'll see how I'm feeling.

Why do you want to tell your story?

I want to show other users that they can also reach their goals and that it can even be fun once you're in the swing of things. Life is so much better when you're comfortable in your own skin! :)
